What’s the most beautiful beach you’ve ever been to?

1 Comment 09 April 2012

This week our Sportsnet staff answer the question “What’s the most beautiful beach you’ve ever been to?”

Sarah – Varadero Beach, Cuba and Tulum Mexico

Ornella – Varadero in Cuba and Paradise beach in Tulum Mexico

Ian – West Coast Australia

Craig – Cape Tribulation

Adrian – Whitehaven, Whitsundays

Daniel – Amadee Island in New Caledonia and Zanzibar Island, Tanzania

Rebecca – Fraser Island

Daniel – Despite standing on a sea urchin while I was there, it would have to be the beach on the northern shores of Zanzibar, Tanzania. Stunning.

Brooke – Bamboo Island, Cambodia or Cable Beach in Broome

Amelia – Modriki in Yasawa Islands in Fiji. The movie Castaway was filmed there.

Casey – It would have to be Phi Phi Island, Thailand.

Rob – Soneva Gili, Maldives

Sue – Soneva Gili, Maldives

Heading to Madrid? Well, here’s your iPad!

No Comments 29 March 2012

This is such a great idea so I’m sure it won’t be long until we see this offered in cities across the world, but in Madrid, it’s all happening now.

Pad in the City is an ingenious service where you can rent an iPad while in Madrid but they’ve made it all as easy as possible for you. You can book through their website, just choose the dates and let them know where they can hand the iPad to you, pop in your email address and pay with Paypal. Then voila!  They deliver the iPad to you! Of course you need to hand over ID and the usual stuff that goes along with the rental of any piece of equipment, but it’s still so easy.

One of the best things is it also comes chock full of apps to “make your stay in Madrid a superior experience” including Metro Madrid, Lonely Planet Madrid, Audio Guides and Wikipanion just to name a few.

Check out all of the details at http://padinthecity.com/

What’s your best packing tip?

No Comments 07 March 2012

Our fantastic staff at Sportsnet give us some great tips on packing for your next adventure…

Sarah - Rolling all your clothes into the biggest space saver and also do not over pack.

Ornella - Roll your clothes.

Ian - Don’t let anyone touch your boogie board.

Craig - Pack lightly.

Adrian - So long as the passport, travel insurance and itinerary are in…the rest is inconsequential. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

Daniel - Lay everything you wish to bring on your bed. And then one by one, look at ways to halve the size of each item which is actually easier than you think! Leaves more room for shopping ladies!

Rebecca - Don’t pack the day of your holiday, that way your going to forget something!

David - Roll, don’t fold! You get much more into a bag if you roll your clothes and items rather than fold them up.

Brooke - Roll your clothes up.  You get more room and less wrinkles

Amelia - Take as much as you can that way you have loads of choices.

Casey - Don’t stress yourself out! Start with the essentials and just remember as long as you have your passport, phone, camera and credit card – you can buy anything else you need when you get there.

For more tips on packing check out our blog post – To roll or to fold, that is the question!

Describe the best meal you’ve ever eaten while travelling?

No Comments 29 February 2012

This week our awesome staff here at Sportsnet answer the question, “Describe the best meal you’ve ever eaten while travelling?”

As Homer Simpson would say ahhghghghhhghghg and yes, we’re drooling…

Sarah – Tacos in Mexico – cannot eat Mexican food after you have had the real thing in Mexico !!

Ornella - Lobster tacos in Playa del Carmen Mexico

Ian – Snails!

Craig - Green Curry Chicken (Thailand)

Adrian - Anything at the ‘Red Onion’, Karon Beach – Thailand

Daniel - The food throughout Africa is amazing as so much is organic and just has so much more taste than what we are used to here in Australia. Also the food in Naples, Italy (where food is an art) is to die for as well.

Sally - Banh Xeo – Vietnamese Pancake, I had one every day whilst in Vietnam – I was determined to find the best one.  It’s a simple dish – a pancake made of rice, flour, water and tumeric filled with pork, prawns and bean shoots – but it’s amazing!

David - I think it would have to be the fresh black pepper crab I ate from a night market in Singapore last year. Absolutely sensational!

Brooke - Panang Curry at Walkers Inn Khao Lak – spectacular!

Amelia - Nasi Goreng in Bali

Casey - One of my best meals was in Jimbaran Bay at a little seafood restaurant on the beach. Our chefs prepared their daily catch in front of us on an open grill while we drank Bintang and watched the sun set.

Frank - anything from the middle east!

Thanks for sharing your culinary tales guys. That’s it! I can’t stand it anymore! For some reason I have a craving for tacos!!!
