Don’t want to touch that hotel remote? The Ri Universal Remote has changed it all.

1 Comment 05 January 2012

We’ve all felt the hotel remote might be full of germs….now there’s an easy and cheap alternative. The Ri universal remote app and connector gives you another option.

Ri transforms your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad to a truly universal remote. You don’t need to worry about adapters or batteries as Ri plugs straight into the headset jack. All you need to do then is select the model from the list supplied, that’s it!

Your device will then work as a remote for all your entertainment (TV, DVD, Home theater, Audio devices), work (Mac, Projector) and in some cases it can control lighting. The application currently supports over 233 most popular brands, over 74 different device types and over 875 devices with users also invited to let th creaters know what they’re missing.

If you are planning to use the application for a specific device, don’t forget to check their list of supported brands and devices before purchasing the connector. The app is free.

Want to share as you travel?

We all seem to be constantly connected to each other via email and social networks, especially with the ever increasing power of our hand held devices.  With hotels now offering packages where you are required to surrender your laptop & mobile phone when checking in, it got us thinking about these devices and how they can be used to help us share our experiences while we’re travelling.

Last week we looked at what an app is, so this week we look at specific apps to keep your friends and family engaged with you while you travel and even get their help to plan your trip…

Trip Journal: Trip Journal allows you to document holiday experiences and share them with your friends and family. The app is also integrated with Facebook, Flickr, Picasa, YouTube and Twitter.

Tripntale: Tripntale.com is an online community built on a social networking model where users can store and share photos, video and journals of trips they have taken. The site has the ability to export content to Facebook. http://www.tripntale.com

Trippy: Trippy is a new social travel web service and iPhone app that lets users call on their friends for travel planning advice and recommendations. The app works with social networks like Facebook to determine which friends may have been to the travel destination already, and those friends can then make recommendations for where to go and what to do. http://www.trippy.com/intro.html
